I wanted to let everyone know about the new method book I have available, Method for the Young Trumpeter. Over the past few years I found myself frustrated with the books available for beginning trumpet students. I always had to either write out exercises or have my student buy 3 or 4 books and even then it was hard to have music that didn’t go too high too fast. I wrote this method book as a solution to this problem, which I hope other trumpet teachers will find extremely useful in their teaching as well.

Here is the description of the book, as listed on my web site:

Method for the Young Trumpeter covers the important foundations of trumpet playing. The first section of the book teaches foundational skills to beginners who have never played the trumpet. The exercises provide a means to develop the basic fundamental skills of playing the trumpet. The second section contains a collection of advanced trumpet studies.

Advanced sections include:

1) Warm-up
2) Scales
3) Flow and Flexibility
4) Tonguing
5) Lip Bends and Pedal Tones
6) Famous Melodies
7) Short Etudes

The book also includes a fingering chart, blank staff paper and blank note paper allowing the teacher to write assignments and notes directly into the book.
