Alright, braces is hell for playin trumpet/cornet/flugelhorn...any small mouthpiece brass instrument really..or any brass instrument. Anyway...you just need to practice....and you're probably going to end up changing your embechure. Just practice, and you'll eventually find a spot that doesn't hurt as much as the rest...but the embechure is gonna change. Try to keep the mouthpiece around where it usually is on your face. Don't apply to much pressure when your playing to. When you do that, you're also closing off the airway to your throat and trying to hard. Just use air, not pressure. take it easy kiddo.

I know what you are going through, I got braces in 8th grade and struggled greatly at first until i adjusted noticing worse tone and a big decrease in range and endurance. I compensated for the braces after I got used to them but I ended up chancing my entire embouchure without noticing and completely screwing it up. When I got my braces off, I had to change my embouchure, which is a very tough task. I had to buzz with just my lips for weeks before i could even start playing notes. After about a month or so i became used to my new embouchure and could start playing seriously again. I advise you to make sure your private teacher keeps a close eye on your embouchure to make sure you don't mess it up too bad.

That's how you spell it. lol. Yea what he said...umm, the private teacher can't do much with the help there, but he/she can try to help. But just be comftorable and make sure ur in a good spot where you can play good.

Kinda weird picturing a 17 year old saying lol... ANYWAY, when I got braces I just got a bigger mouthpiece and made sure not to change my embouchure, which you have to consciously do. When I got my braces off I switched back to my regular mouthpiece and fine-tuned my embouchure. I didn't lose any range or endurance.
