My 10 year old son is just starting out on trumpet and I was hoping for some advice on what type of trumpet to purchase for him. Any specific makes and models? Any suggested web sites to purchase from? USed is fine but how do I know if the trumpet is good quality or not. I know absolutely nothing about trumpet so any advice is welcome. Thanks Midwestblues

yamaha's are good quality and have trumpets for varying standards and so therefore varying prices. check out this website: http://www.yamaha-europe.com/yamaha_europe/uk/10_musical_instruments/20_orchestra/20_brass_instruments/index.html and just a point caution with a new trumpet make sure you polish the laquer often as otherwise it wears off from the sweat in your hands

Well I would recommend renting a trumpet for a while so you know for sure that he's gonna stick with it. You don't want to spend a good chunk of cash on something and then have him tell you he doesn't want to play anymore. Do that, then check out the links above.

any beginner horn really. don't buy anything professional...because it may turn out to be a waste of money. Buy a holton, yamaha, or a bach beginner horn. grab a bach300
