Hello,
I`ve started palying trumpet and I will start my lessons with a teacher.
I`m 17 and I want to know if it`s late for me to start playing the trumpet?
I also want to know is it hard to learn to read the music sheet, I saw couple of music sheets and it looks like it`s hard to learn how to read all the different signs and notes on the lines?
How long does it take to fully learn how to read the music sheet?
Thanks a lot
Dave

The basics of Reading music is not all that hard. The difficulty increase as your skill level increases. I wouldn’t worry about your age, I don’t know were you got the Idea that it’s ‘‘too late’’. Your only 17!.
Have you visited this part of the site yet? http://www.8notes.com/school/trumpet/trumpet4.asp

Yes I visited that part.
I know which finger to press for specific note.
Well I heard from a trumpet teacher that if you`re over 15 and you start palying trumpet it will be hard for you because it will be much harder to train your lips then if you would start at a younger age.

hey..
I started playing the trumpet in grade 3 and then joined the school band in grade 4..i am now in university and am still imoproving so you will never completly know everything about playing..just take your time and dont expect too much of yourself at the beginning. My band teacher told me to play 30min a day and dont worry about learning how to learn to read music..you will learn as yoy go..good luck and have fun

Umm... I`m only 14... I`m using my sister`s trumpet this year in school, and I was wondering since I haven`t even touched her trumpet yet, how do you use it and what do I need to know??

First thing I would do is buy a new mouth piece since it`s your sister`s trumpet.
Second have your sister show you how to hold and blow the trumpet.
Get a teacher or someone to show you it really not that hard.

1st thing, find a good teacher. Many local colleges will have a prep program where trumpet students are teaching private lessons. These will be people close to your own age and can probably connect with you on your own level. As a teacher I`ve seen older students like yourself often look for short cuts. There are none! There are no quick, "trumpet for dummys" ways to the joy of reading and playing trumpet music. I`m not saying that it can`t be done I`m saying be ready for some hard work.
