Taps is something that can be played in many keys. When I play it, I do everything open and start on G. 1&3 also works. just make sure you use your 1st or 3rd slide so you are in tune.

My band director said you can use any fingering and just use you lips (keep same valves down) but he says most people use 1and3 but there is actual sheet music versions with different fingerings.

The abouve goes for taps and reviele

Taps is originally written for bugle, which is a different key instrument than trumpet. So on the trumpet the equivilent sound would be all notes played with the first and second vaulves pressed down, starting on an e.

Correct the bugle is in a different key, however it is in C while trumpet is in Bb, which means if you were to play a C on trumpet you would be playing D on bugle NOT e..
---------------------------------

does n e 1 kno where 2 find it 4 a violin or viola? tough luck, i kno. but my dads friend died recently and those r the ONLY instruments i kno how 2 play.

its a little late however, if you wanted to transpose it for Violin or Viola lower the notes by one WHOLE step from trumpet, (c->Bb g->f e->d) etc....
---------------------------------

the most common key for a bugle starts on a d in Bb trumpeters language so from personal experience it sounds alot more mellow and "bugley" if you will if you start on a d and play everything with 1+3

correct however a true trumpeter would start on treble G and move up to high G

That is a good site for bugle calls trandspoed for trumpet... it is on the second page 2nd from the bottom, taps is on the last page...
----------------------------------
Good luck to all you guys, im a 6th year played and i hope i cleard up some inconsistencies on your reaasonings, have fun and practice practice practice!
