Hello folks,
I would like to invite you to join the Trumpet Herald. If you go to the following address, www.trumpetherald.com, you will find a selection of trumpet forums, with everything from Fundamentals, to High Range Development, to Equipment. It is truly a good forum, and has helped my understanding of Trumpet in many ways. I took a look at the posts on this site, and it seems that there is a good deal of bad advice circulating, and, in some cases, a lack of respect. The Trumpet Herald has many professional and amateur Trumpet Player who are kindly willing to offer useful advice. Although I would first recommend you talk to your private teacher about any issues you face, www.trumpetherald.com is a very good resource.

I am speaking of no one in particular, least of all, you. It just seems that a lot of beginners are giving advice to other beginners. There is nothing wrong with that, but it is better to have insight from someone more experienced.

On a separate note, I read your post about horns. I also got a 25-30 year old Bach Stradivarius off of ebay, and, like you, I wish I would've looked a bit more. Bachs are the "standard good" horns, and possibly the best known, but I think I might have preferred a lighter weight horn. You know, I think all that talk of heavier horns producing a darker, fuller sound, is bull. Perhaps it does sound darker, but a sound that is all dark, with no bright elements to it, usually sound flat. Not as in sharp or flat pertaining to pitch, but a sound that lacks color and vibrancy. But, I suppose the horn doesn't make the player in any case, although I think that is an interesting topic.

is that a picture of your horn? if it is that is pretty cool looking, with the gold in the bell. my strad isn't so hot looking, it's got a lot of wear.

I wish that was my horn. I like the vintage looking Trumpets. Mine has a fair amount of wear, but it remains in pretty good condition. I actually like completely gold horns, mouthpiece and all. Not a hint of silver, and for some reason I love gold horns with all the shine rubbed off. But I discovered my liking to completely gold trumpets after I got the Strad. I think you are right, they don't make them like they used to. I also have a disliking to mega-tone or other heavy weight mouthpieces. That's only my personal preference though.
