Hi Folks

I have always wanted to play the trumpet, I'm now 34 and finally getting round to it. My trumpet should arrive in the next couple of days, where do I start?

Cheers
Seye

you well probably run into problems asking people ont the internet how to play trumpet, trumpet is not easy to learn on your own, and if you try you might run into unfixable problems.
first thing you should do is get a good teacher.

Meet with a private teacher. Even if you cannot afford regular lessons,it would be a worth while investment to get a few to at least start out with. Trumpet is a difficult instrument, and getting off on the wrong foot can lead to serious problems later.

Have fun, and the best of luck to you!

Getting on not to bad, but I agree at some point I will need a teacher before I take on some bad habits.

Jackie,

Not sure the make of Trumpet if it is a make, The trumpet I got was a sliding third valve trumpet to reach a low D or C# in tune.

Hoping this will do untill I learn ther basics and them I will save for a good make.

i hope you didn't buy a brand like bestler, first act, or an other look alikes, or a trumpet from target because those are not trumpets, they are toys.
i've have seen at target and wal-mart that thier trumpets cost $200 something. when off ebay you could get a perfectly good student olds, yamaha, getzen, for about the same price or less, and the brands i mentioned actually make REAL trumpets.

Wow, trumpet is not the easiest instrument to self-learn. You definitely want to get yourself a private teacher to guide your learning. He/She can give you much better guidance and can help learn much better than any internet posts. I wouldn't ask for too much advice on how to begin playing trumpet on a forum...good luck.
