And you call yourself a trumpet player!!!! First of all your valve might be bent or something.Or maybe you have a buildup major! Try soaking it in a vinegar solution overnight and if that does`nt work,TAKE IT TO THE MUSIC SHOP WHERE YOU BOUGHT IT FROM!!!!

one thing our band director had us do was to use emory cloth. You can get it at a hardware store. Be very careful because the metal on your valve is very vunerable and fragile. VEry carefully, and very lightly, rub your valve down with the emory cloth. It will rub out whatever is catching the pipe. If this doesn`t work, it`s probably bent and needs to be straightened by a music shop.

I bought a Capri Getzen in good shape on ebay for $350.

I love it, I now play it for about 3 months and not once I had a valve problem.

I have a Bach strad. and the valves used to stick like a mother- I would take it in for them to clean it, and they would start sticking within a week no matter how much valve oil I put on them. I heard that if you apply lava soap to a valve it will get rid of pretty much everything. I tried it, and have never had it stick again as long as I have some valve oil on there. Bach`s have a very good sound, if you get the right mouthpeice, so don`t give up on it yet.

My advice

Buy a YAMAHA.

the valve action is fantastic. You can leave them neglected in the case for years and then just pick them up and start playing (not that that`s a good way to learn!!)

Just beware with buying 2nd hand - valve action does mould to the player over time and if a trumpet has been played a lot, especially with the fingers on any slight angle, there will be sticking especially if your technique is different.

I know the problem has been resolved, but for future reference, you may have needed stronger springs. Strong enough springs don`t usually come with your trumpet. I know I need them, iey, my valves are slow. And yes, I clean them and oil them and all that :P
