Alright, I have played trumpet for 7 years now. Now I am in high school and I don't want to use my professional cornet on the field. My band director said I should play Mellophone(sp?), but I really want to play baritone. My director said I could lose my embouchure if I played baritone. I was looking around the net and found an attachment that makes a trombone mouthpiece work in a baritone, so I was wondering what is the closest size trombone mouthpiece to a trumpet mouthpiece? I would say probably 7C since I'd just be starting baritone and I'd imagine that the amount of air that needs to be put through is different. Could anybody please help me on this problem? Thanks!

Number one. If you are a trumpet player you can seriously damage your embouchure for any future trumpet playing by switching to trombone or baritone...DO NOT DO THIS UNLESS YOU ARE PLANNING TO SWITCH INSTURMENTS COMPLETELY. Now that that is said, the reason your instructor suggested mellophone was because you can use your trumpet mouthpiece for it.
Now Baritone and Trombone mouthpieces are alot larger than trumpet mouthpieces so the answer to your question about what mouthpiece is most like the trumpet....none of them. Also on your statement "I was looking around the net and found an attachment that makes a trombone mouthpiece work in a baritone". I don't know what you have been told but a trombone mouthpiece can double as a baritone mouthpiece. There is no need to "buy" a special adapter. In conclusion If you want to switch to another insturment, make it a mellophone UNLESS you plan on switching to trombone or baritone permenatly. The Reason is that if you play baritone through the marching season when it comes time for regular band when you pick up your coronet it will be like playing it for the first time because you will have trained all new muscles in your lips while letting the other ones atrophy.

P.S. If I have assumed wrong information please let me know so I might be able to answer your question more fully.

Well I was wondering if I am still taking lessons and still playing my cornet everyday in concert band is it possible for me to maintain my embouchure?

I wouldn't consider that an impossabilty but, you are going to have to work really hard to maintain your coronet skills. I should have mentioned before that I'm speeking from personal experience. I went from trumpet to baritone for a few practices to cover a sick member from my pep band in highschool and when I went back to trumpet my lips felt like jelly and all that came out wes a sound like PPPPPHHHHHHBBBBUUBBRRBURBRBUR. If you have the dedication and are willing to work a little harder I don't see why you wouldn't be able to pull this off. If you can please let me know how it turned out. God speed and good luck.

Do switch between tuba, baritone, trombone, and french horn.(of course trumpet); cause I help the people that want to learn the instrument. Just don't over do it and work on trumpet everyday if you decide not to permanently switch....Ooh It seems that you weren't sure of the meaning of Baritone T.C. when you posted it, all it is, instead of reading in Bass Clef you read in treble clef, everything else is the same with a Bass Clef baritone. Good Luck!!!

I play in college and it is part of our daily routine to switch from trumpet to baritone. It takes a little getting used to but it builds really good chops, if you do it everyday. It took me a good month or two until I could switch with ease but it is completely possible and recommended by some teachers.

when I say switch from trumpet to baritone I mean switching back and forth between trumpet and baritone. We buzz on the trumpet mouthpiece then play on the trumpet then buzz on the baritone mouthpiece and then play the baritone and the cycle keeps going. Just wanted to clear up any confusion.
