hey does anyone have any advice or techniques they use to practice getting out faster air for high notes or forte pianos on high notes?

I keep getting light headed when i hold out high A's, B's, or C's for too long.

Sit-ups and crunches to develop the abs, plus an expansion drill that is amazingly effective.

Take any piece you want to play that has a long stretch without a break. Play as far as you can in one breath. Play it again, but this time add one measure. Do it again until that additional measure is strong and doesn't fade out or get that pinched-out sound. Now, do it again and add one more measure.

Keep this pattern going until you can play the whole thing in one breath. As you add meadures, you will find that your range wil get more solid and consitent without the intonatoin problems, plus you'll be able to play super-soft in the upper AND lower register. Playing pedal tone scales helps with both "air" and range.

It will take some time, but if you keep after it, you'll be amazed at how quickly you'll start to impress yourself with your progress.

Hope this helps.

One great excersize is to take a peice of pc pipe, and practice breathing in and out of it. Start to memorize what it feels like to breath in that manor, as it is the proper way to take in a breath for trumpet. Then, apply that to your tpt skills, and you're good to go. Great breathing excersize.

Another drill that works exceptionally well is to play as super-quiet as you can for as long as you can - pppppppp - do full octave scales , ascending and descending chromatically, and do arpeggios the same way. You will be amazed at how quickly your control and your range will improve.
