Hello,
My first instrument was the cornet. I remember I was the only one in my class able to hit the high notes, but my love was the guitar, however, because I was only 11 or 12 years old guitar was not an allowed instrument in music class in grade school. I never practiced much and never learned what I was supposed to. Because I was naturally talented musically at a young age, my music teacher put me in the advanced class in junior high. That was a mistake and I dropped out when I realized I was not even close to where I needed to be, and besides, my love was the guitar, not the cornet, so I quit playing the cornet and eventually picked up the guitar when I turned 15.
I recently got my cornet out brought on by listening to the Blues Brother's intro. I thought to myself "I can figure that out no problem", except for one problem; I have lost my ability of hitting the high notes. I have also completely forgotten how to read music, but I don't need to read music to figure out the Blues Brother's intro on the Trumpet, I just need to be able to hit the high notes once again.
Today at 41 years old I record music in my home and I play all the instruments including the drums, singing, bass and lead guitar. My thought is this; picking up the trumpet would be an awesome addition to my musical talents and music writing/recording and music video productions.
With all that said, does anyone shred on the trumpet? It's only a silly thought because I am in the process of retraining my fingers on the guitar to play on a very high level in regards to my reach and coordination practicing advanced arpeggios and scales. I'm going for extreme coordination that few guitarists have. I don't say that with like a big head or anything, and the reality for me is I have the "real" possibility of losing it all once again. 5 years ago I was diagnosed with MS and I did lose my ability to play guitar for a about 6 months and I was about to quit playing guitar, I was scared and I thought my guitar playing was gone forever until about 2 weeks later when I saw some improvements in my fingers. Now that it's back I'm going for extreme coordination while I can. Maybe I'll never lose it again, but maybe I will, but either way, at least I will have recordings and music videos of my original music. Putting all this effort in my music I can't help to entertain playing the trumpet again and add that in my music as well.
The honest truth is, guitar was not my love when I was a child. Music was and still is. I thank God for all the musical talents He gave me.
Have a great day,
Daniel
