I'm currently planning on getting a slide trumpet because not only did I find that you can get a decent one for like $350, but learning to play it would allow me to then know how to play all brass instruments, which would be a cool skill to have. Anyhow, I was looking at the Jupiter 314L Slide Trumpet and thought that looked good and heard many great things about it. I also saw this Jean Baptiste one for like $150. Is the Jupiter overpriced, or is it that the Jean Baptiste is a cheapie, because I take my instruments seriously and plan for it to last a long time. Let me know of any other suggestions as to which one to get. Thanks guys!

The Jupiter is probably a better bet, even though their brass instruments aren't the best as a rule. But, for student-level investments, they're okay. You do realize that the soprano trombone (slide trumpet) is one full octave higher than the tenor trombone, right? So, you'll need to use the tenore T-bone method books to learn to play the thing. The intonation problems on the soprano T-bone are going to kick your butt for a little while, so have patience. This really is an odd approach to take in learning to play brass instruments, but to each his own, you know?
