when you want to listen to better artist, then you have to mention the name Allan Vizzutti
He is the best, his sound is so great, big...
and his techniquals elements are so great. When you think on the Carnival of Venice: He has created variations. Its fantastic. He is the best and I wonder why you havent list him down

Maynard Ferguson is the greatest, but not the Maynard Ferguson of Today. Maynard in his 20s -> 50`s was the best. ESPECIALLY his early 20s with Kenton. Listen to "This is an Orchestra!" from Kenton`s record "New Concepts of Artistry in Rhythm". When you`re talking about trumpet playing I think we miss the main issue: it`s not about how high or how fast or how melodic a player can play, but how musically talented they are. If you listen to any recordings by Bix Beiderbecke, you almost never hear a note above G (that`s G on the staff), but it`s some of the prettiest playing you`ve ever heard. Most of Beiderbecke and Ferguson`s playing abilities come from their overall musical prowess, which naturally leads into tone and other factors. For that reason I think those two, and Wynton Marsalis, are the best. All of them eminate music.

you poor poor souls...you havn`t heard a player till you`ve heard Byron Stripling.he is probably the least known of all the modern greats but is the best in my opinion.for example he was selected by John Williams to be the featured soloist in the boston pops pbs concert "Evening at Pops." he also played the part of Louis Armstrong in the Broadway musical "Satchmo".Whenever you hear the opening theme songs for either CNN or 20/20 you are hearing him playing.

i too think byron stripling is one of the best players around. but u cant just name one person as the best. they are all equally great players. my list of the best is (not in any particular order) Arturo Sandoval, Byron Stripling, Allen Vizzutti, Maurice Andre, Louis Armstrong, Miles Davis, and Doc Severinsen <- im surprised noone listed him
