Take it in the shower with you occasionally and give it a wash down on the outside especially if you sweat whilst you are playing. The acid in your sweat doesn`t do lacquer or plating any good. You could also buy yourself a leather valve guard to protect the plating. Hope this helps

I just got a new silver plated horn as well and this is what I do. I use a clean cloth baby diaper in my left hand when I play. I keep any spit wiped off as I`ve seen over the years what these spit drops can do to the finish. I also keep as many of the finger prints wiped off as well. I`ve been playing the horn a lot over the past 2 months and it still looks as good as the day I bought it. Good luck with your new horn.

I`ve had my silver horn for 4 years. However, it is 30 years old. (my mom played it) I use silver polish (which you can get at Wal-Mart for like $5) to shine my horn. It makes the horn really shiny. You can get the stuff in like a spray form or a paste/cream like form. I oil my valves about once a week with Al-Cass (sp?) valve oil. It`s the best. If you get a valve guard make sure you take it off to clean the horn b/c the trumpet will get ugly tarnish on itself. The cleaner will take it off. Hope this helps you!

I just use a laquer polishing cloth, and a little bit of tarnish remover. It`s shiny as a whistle

The cloth works for a little while, but I find the siver poish works ten times better. With the silver polish and tarnish remover, my trumpet looks really great. People think it is brand new instead of 30 years old. Hope this helps!
