I have recently taken the 'buttons'?' out to oil them and didn't pay any attention to how they were sitting down in the holes. Hopefully by my use of extraordinary vocabulary you can tell that I am not a trumpet player, it was a loan from a friend, and I am learning, so all the help I could get would be wonderful. Ok, the 'buttons' came out, and now they are back in but the air is not flowing through the air holes properly. Is there any rule of thumb that would make it easy to reset the button valves back to the position where they are supposed to be?

Thanks,

on the side of the "buttons" aka valves there is a little tab sticking out and on the inside of the hole they go in there should be a little notch or track for it to slide into. just make sure that you dont forget which button goes into which hole. there may be numbers on the valve to remind you.

Yes, there are usually two little plastic tabs that stick out on each side of the valve. You must have put one or more in wrong.

A good tip is if they have numbers on them, the number side goes toward the end where you put the mouthpiece in.

If that doesnt help, then its just a guess and check process to see which ones were put in wrong.
