I totally agree that girls can play trumpets! My friend that is a girl plays trumpet! I myself occasionally pick up Old Rusty (my VERY old trumpet). I kinda wanted to play trumpet in 6th grade cuz they always got the solos (plus my dad played it), but my parents thought it was a more "masculine" instrument. Bull!

I gotta agree on this although there are not many "world famous" female trumpeters out there i know for a fact there are girl trumpet players out there that can blow all the ignorent idiots of guys like curtis who posted on this forum away i mean just cuz female trumpet players are kind of more or less unheard of doesnt mean were not good or cant play just as good as u can i was in seventh grade this year and a girl and got first chair all county and have been first chair in band class ever since the first chair test we ever had.I was also in marching band this year and the high school jazz band.Oh yea and look at Alison Balsom she is a great trumpet player and i bet she can out play all u idiots that think females cant play.

Thankfully, there are no sexist comments in my band- mostly because every girl has a chair higher than the highest boy in the section (e.g. 1st and second chair are girls, 3rd through 10th are boys), and because our conductor simply wouldn't allow it. LOL- I play tbone and tuba, and my mom is still hoping I will switch to clari or flute. NOT GONNA HAPPEN!

Personally, I think the girls can play a trumpet, but its such a waste. Many of these girls are much better at playing the skin flute, or even the rusty trombone. I have equipment you can practice on.

i get what you mean but it is flutes in my school the magority of flute palyers in my school are girls (in fact all but one of the flute player at school are girls) and both he trombone players are guys, with our trumpets we have 2 guys and 2 girls. but the guy flute player can play circles round most of the girls (apart from about 3 who have grades 7&8) but because hes a guy it doesn't make him anworse an the fact i am a girl doesn't make me any better then him (i am no where near as good as him). i know how you feel but it works both ways round

I totally agree. Girl trumpet players are so much better. At my school, I am the only girl, and I get all the jokes in the world aimed at me because I am the only girl trumpetist. And I am so much better than them, and they know it. I may not be the prettiest person around, but believe me, girl trumpetists and girl brassists are so much better than the guys. In the sections at my school, if there is a girl in the section, she has principal chair.

Musicalgal12, gender has nothing to do with it. All female trumpet players are not superior to all male ones for the same reason that all male players are not superior to all females. Isn't this what everyone was arguing about before? Gender doesn't matter. The bottom line is that the best person for the job gets to be first chair, whether male or female. Sexism works both ways. (or at least it should)
