I am a fairly skilled high school player and I am currently in the market for a new trumpet, specifically for symphonic and jazz purposes. My current horn is a Getzen eterna 700 series, and I am in dire need of something with a much darker and warmer tone quality. I am willing to spend up to $2000. Preferably Getzen or Monette trumpets.

Stay with Getzen. The Bach's are fun to play, but are expensive to repair and have a bright sound. I have a Getzen Capri (forget the model number), and its like a dream to me. If you want a great getzen, go on ebay or the equiv and look for an older Capri. My buddy got one for like 200, and with a few hundred in some repairs, it'll have better tone and value than most anything new. But, go with what sounds good to you. Everyone is looking for a different sound. Its hard to just look at a trumpet online and say "I want this one". Experiment and see what fits you best.

If you want a dark, warm tone, and you truly are fairly skilled, there is only one answer. Get an Olds Opera. These trumpets sell for around $2000 on eBay. Beware, if you aren't really good at the trumpet, this horn will not be a good choice.

lol a monette... go with yamaha or bach pro models, they are around 2000 dollars are very popular. a getzen would also be a good choice if you find one you like.
My friend has a conn vintage one that is in excellent playing condition and has absolutely no dents if you are looking for something like that.

Just saw your post... All the above are good options, but it's really a 'to each their own' thing. Try every horn you can get your hands on. Call some pros in your area and ask their opinion.
My two cents worth... the new Tulsa Calicchio horns. I've got two of their trumpets and they are rich and round sounding throughout the range of the horn. Intonation is great as well. I was just in Tulsa two weeks ago and picked up a copper bell flugel... absolutely incredible! I've never played a flugel with such a big warm 'in tune' sound before. Check them out if you can.
Best of luck.

I don't play french horn, but I'm pretty sure that it's a whole different animal. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Your range will get cut down. There are some similar fingerings that i've noticed.
And mellophone will be much more similar to trumpet if you do marching.

it's funny because everyone wants a monette. You would have to raise your spending limit on that one. But also recommend yamaha. Their new horns are getting better sound quality. But since you said darker i say go with the cannonball if you could find a good one. I understand completely because i have a getzen

There are a number of excellent horns in your price range, but Monette is not one of them. I have owned a couple of Monettes, and they are indeed dark, but at your stage you would probably be better served by a pro level Bach, Yamaha, or other horn. They would be much more versatile. If you want something dark you might also consider a used Harrelson conversion. Of course, your mouthpiece can also make a big difference in your sound.

Why do you especially want a dark horn?

Cheers,
