lol you obviously need both. you cant dispute it...woodwinds are good for all the sappy/crappy parts that composers love to throw in there. Now if you want to get the crowd excited and interested, leave it to the brass, cause nothing beats a crazy fanfare lol

yeah.... your right trumpet girl. if you want a crappy part in your music... just throw in some woodwinds. now if you want the crowd screaming and yelling and crying, give them what they really want... some good brass players... heck... you can even give them crappy brass players cause they would rather have a brass player that barely knows how to play than a woodwind that is amazingly good(witch we all know is impossible). That is my opinion.

well... let me put it this way... i went to my high school band for a practice one day... and all the brass instruments were being cleaned ecept mine...now... there are5 flutes, 4 clarinets, and 3 saxaphones. i was the only trumpet/brass player there during warmups... and i was still louder than all the woodwinds... thats what i call quiet. lol.

Yeah, trumpets pretty much cut through everything. Anything brass can cut through a string orchestra...
