I wonder why this brand of trumpet as some say can't use other mouthpiece brand except yamaha itself.

A senior in our band mentioned that yamaha mouthpieces are made to give better sound. But how if you will use other brand of mouthpiece, will it produce a poor inferior sound?? I don't believe. I suspect its a kind of salestalk only.

Yamaha uses a proprietary type of metal for it's instruments. They believe there are advantages to using this "special metal" developed just for them. As a result of using a "special metal" there are certain properties the instruments have. The statement you heard could be somewhat true in the sense that their mouthpieces have been designed to work with the properties of their particular instruments.

There are three different "venturi's" that all need to complement each other. And the crafting of the mouthpiece is important to make this happen; especially from the throat, through the bore, and throughout the backbore of the mouthpiece.

Is a Yamaha mouthpiece the only mouthpiece that will make a Yamaha instrument sound good? NO. There are many professional players who sound really good who play a Yamaha trumpet, but use a non-Yamaha mouthpiece. Can you just throw any mouthpiece onto the trumpet? You probably shouldn't.

Want to find out for sure? Get your trumpet playing freinds together with a bowl of rubbing alcohol. Put all your mouthpieces in the bowl of rubbing alcohol. With everyone facing the other way play the same passage on each mouthpiece and have your freinds write down their impressions of what they hear. Then switch and have someone else play each mouthpiece. (This is called a blind test). Then you'll know for yourself through experimentation.

He's correct, yamaha are the best fitted mouthpieces for a yamaha horn. Why? Well like he said it's the metal for one and 2, the weight. It balances out the weight of the trumpet for a comfortable feel/ balance. There are other mouthpieces you could use. But I wouldn't recommend any standard Bach mouthpiece. I personally use a Denis wick mouthpiece which gives a balance and a rich sound while playing. but for the most part, yamaha's does perform better with a yamaha mouthpiece compared to any standard mouthpiece.

Ok. thanks.
I saw last time from an online store two trmpt. mouthpieces that are returned, used but for a lower price. They are playable they say eventhough they have minor scratches, nicks, insertion marks and one of them with small dents on the other end of the mouthpiece. I saw their pictures and they look not bad.

What can you say about these.? I'm interested to buy them but do you think it is possible that the actual appearance of the product I will receive will be different from the pictures I saw? Or I will receive the same model but not that seen on the pictures. Do the small dents on the end have an effect on the trmpets sound?

ok
Here is another case. I'm not yet a good trumpet player. I plan to continue practicing the trumpet and use it as a hobby..I borrowed my brothers yamaha ytr1335s made in japan.
I also borrowed his schilke 13A4a (16.76 mm.wide) for the yamaha..It has a Cup A-shallow and throat 3.66 mm. and backbore "a" tighter.

My first octave notes sounds good not so big. But the second octave notes up to G on top of the staff sometimes sound thin, brighter, but also sometimes better than thinner, like normal second octave up to G only. Sometimes I blow them sounding with different size of tone. I laugh at my G ha ha. there are times it does not sound at all, but sometimes it sounds a little brilliant, brighter but with normal tone size bigger than D, E, and F.

Money to buy a mouthpiece is not a problem I saved enough for it. The question is Do you think it will help a lot if I will buy a new mouthpieces schilke 15A4a .
The new one according to the website of the store has a width of 17.14 mm., the throat is 3.66 mm. and backbore is same as the 13A4a that I borowed.
I expect the difference in cup diameter ( width) of .38mm will make my second octave notes sounds normal and larger eventhough with alittle brightness. I dont like to try deeper mpiece I worry I might not reach the G and upper notes.
What can you say about these?
