actually a 3C is a very general all round kind of mouthpiece, I love mine, i can play pretty dark and rich, or just blow a little more and get a nice loud cutting tone, :D
wwbw.com has a great selection of new and used trumpets, accessories such as gig bags and mutes, and new mouthpieces.
MY experience with them has been positive i have p urchased new cases, mouthpieces, instruments, and actually sold them an instrument.
( they do sell some used instruments and explain any repairs needed, if any, on that specific instrument.)
otherwise you might just wanna go to your trumpet professor and see what he recommends,
in my opinion, a yamaha xeno or bach stradivarius is a good bet, I play on a strad but im looking for a xeno for college.
if you want all of this at once be prepared to buy anywhere from 2 to 4 thousand dollars.
Good luck :D

Have you spoken with your trumpet teacher to get his/her opinion?
You didn't mention that.
As a start though, try a standard bach 37 strad, and 3c mouthpiece. That's a middle of the road combination that can give you a point of reference. Good luck!

I would go and get a good horn, like a Bach Strad. 3c is usually the "normal" mouthpiece all the big orchestral, principal trumpet players play. If your looking for a well-rounded mouthpiece, talk to your private trumpet teacher (if you have one). My "well-rounded" mouthpiece is actually a french horn mouthpiece. However it's been modified with a 43" rim on top of a Bob Reeves Hollywood standard mouthpiece, with a 4" sleeve. It's between shallow and deep, and I can hit any register with it, but still with the same tone and resonance.
