What Candice said is true but a little vague. Talent is the key ingredient, but you also have to be very persistent in promoting yourself and look for opportunities that provide work, try to net work with working musicians you may have to find a part-time non/music based job until you get a steady cash flow also most working musicians do some instrument tuition as well. Good luck, Andrew.

also... if you want to be in an orchestra then make sure that you get into a travelling one.. because you may or may not have to pay for the transportation and all that jazz... but you are more likely going to get really good recognition and then ull get a way better cash flow.

lookin` for bling bling in the trumpet industry, well, lets put it this way, i make $200+ dollars to play at weddings (sometimes funurals though they dont pay as much) play a couple of songs for like 2 hours, then thats it and im $200 dollars richer.

.......which goes toward sheet music and buying adds in the paper lol.

Musicians don`t make good money. In fact, it is really hard for anyone to make good money. But if you love doing it, go for it. Money isn`t everything.

Do anything you want and you can get good money. All you need is talent.

stop saying- if you got the talent and money isnt everything. your trying to make yourself look better. Ok money isnt everything but why are you playing at the wedding? to get money. if you only do it cuz you love music then play to yourself. Anyways stop saying talent, its mostly practice. Not everyone has "talent" although everyone can perform and get paid if they practice enough. If you were composing songs for a wedding than yes you need lots of talent but your not, are you? your practicing already made songs then playing them. I could go on more but than it would be too long.

whoa, ego trip... fall back! you can`t even start to yell at people like john and myself for doing what we love... you need money in life, so doing what u love to get it is everything. i play all the time for non-profit things, like community centres for the disabled and what-not... you dont know us- you also cant say that it`s all practice.. we all have talent, whether you worked up to it or not... its a fact, music takes talents. look upa few definitions in the dictionary and then you can start to tell me what i should do with my life... thank you

when i said "your trying to look better" i meant "you are trying to make yourself look better by saying that".

well i suggest teaching maybe because it is consistent money and much satisfaction that your helping children and hopefully getting them good grades.

maybe if i was finished highschoool and had a university diploma than teaching would work... but i dont... i am not trying to make myself look better at all! i know i have talent, and i dont care what anyone has to say about that... i know that i can make money doing what i love, and i do... that doesnt make me a bad person.. at all! respect is something a lot of people need to learn about, and try to love yourself because you come on here and choose right away who you want to hate

I do think talent is largely about hard work myself. I support a family on the wages i earn as a musician and private teacher. You don`t need a day job as well although until you get established it may be useful.
