To many people, trumpet players are viewed as pompous, self centered egotists and many trumpet players might agree, but what is the reason we are that way?

I don't think you can pin that as a "trumpet player only" theme.

Growing up in music it was always a strive to be the best. Just like sports players, you want to be the star player. No matter what instrument you play, there are always those players w/ an elitist attitude toward their fellow musicians. I'll admit when I was young I had a fat head on my shoulders. Only when I got older did I realize what a big prat I was.

All I can say is nomatter where you fit into this conclusion, be the better player and strive to be the best and help those around you without having a chip on your shoulder.

Relax, Branson. Just because you play the trumpet, this does not make you pompous, self centered egotists, or arrogant.

Yes, there are arrogant people in the population. They spread through the different arts, sciences, commerce, and all other human activities, including trumpet playing. If there is any evidence that the latter is richer in arrogant people than the rest, I am not aware of it.

I read the blog by Bruce Chidester. Nowhere in the blog he mentions any scientific study based on thorough survey or statistics indicating more arrogance among trumpet players than in any other group of people with common interest. He draws his conclusion based on his own personal experience and what he considers as reputation. Naturally, within your own group and your own experience you encounter arrogant people, especially among those you compete with for success and recognition. Your encounter with arrogant people from other groups, where competition is not a factor, may or may not reveal their arrogance.

Relax, and don't worry. Just because you play the trumpet, this does not make you pompous, self centered egotists, or arrogant in any way shape or form.
