Hello,

I just bought a new trumpet and I had my lesson with my teacher.

We found a problem that the trumpet was not in tune, we tried pulling the slides out to keep in tune with the piano, but still I was not playing in tune. He then tried playing on his Sax and I played on the Horn and I was still off tune.

My teacher said that I have embasure problem, he said that I play the notes to sharp.

Now what can I do to fix the problem, how do I play right to keep in tune with other instruments??

Thanks for help
Dave

Do you have a piano at home? Or a keyboard? If you do, warm-up by buzzing on your mouth piece for about 1 minute. Then, play an "F" on the piano and buzz that not with your mouthpiece. Once you are comfortable doing that, take a big breath and buzz that same pitch (F on the piano) and while you are still buzzing, slowly bring the trumpet up to the mouthpice until the sound comes out of the trumpet. You will be playing your "G". See if your trumpet sounds the same as your buzz (which hopefully still sounds like the "F" on the piano). If this works, try doing it with other notes on the piano. I don`t know how old you are. If you need me to explain it in simpler terms let me know. If not, I could go a step further with this.

Sorry about the typ-o... I spelled note - not...oops

Then, play an "F" on the piano and buzz that NOTE with your mouthpiece.

Are you using the same mouthpiece you used before? What kind of trumpet did you get? What mouthpiece are you using?

Did you buy a Bb trumpet or a C trumpet? I`m not trying to be insulting...but if you bought a C trumpet you will sound a whole step higher. So play your G...if it sounds like a G on the piano, you bought a C trumpet!

I bought a Getzen Capri model.

I`m sure that it`s a Bb trumpet ( right??)

I`m using the old mouthpiece.

I`m playing with piano and I have noticed some improvements.

If your obesure (sp?) is really tense, try relaxing a bit. And keep your teeth apart, that always got me!
