How much technical work each day??

I was just curious to see how much technical work other players do. I have routine of about 10mins warm up then 40 - 60mins technical work. I place a lot of emphasis on high low loud and soft attcks and also on intervals. I do about 10mins of flex and just other technique stuff like double/ triple tounguing and high range.
I was also wondering how much tapering off a pretty good player would do before a big concert. I just recently did my 3rd year recital at uni where I had to play for an hour and I felt like maybe i backed off a bit much as my lips felt fresh but not as responsive as i would have liked on the night. Any ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks

I`m also a 3rd year trumpet major in uni, but not in performance. I thought I was technique freak but, I only do about 20 to 30 minutes of it every day. During these minutes I usually try to review some scales and arpeggios for jazz. I haven`t been doing any legit technique stuff lately, but it comes in practice when I do my legit studies. Double tonguing, triple tonguing, and all those other fun things are only practiced when I feel that they`re out of shape. I feel that I`ve payed my dues to practicing some of those techniques, and that my focus has shifted. Also, I tend to do more technique while I`m off from school and only practicing for fun.

Oh yeah, it`s a funny thing you mentioned unresponsive lips because I just overcame a dry spell of unresponsiveness. My lips were tense, I couldn`t play any high notes, and I didn`t last too long. Thank God, that I was able to play it through. Tapering off not so much in practice time, but in register. The way I played it off was by doing some Concone Lyrical studies because they don`t go high in the register. They gave me the "buzzy" feeling back in lips. You know, that feeling when you can just pick up the horn and play without warming up. Once, you have that, keep it, and don`t let go of that feeling. My logic was to feel good in the middle registers in order feel better in the high register and it`s working great so far. well, later. I hope this somewhat answers your question.

Yeah totally agree with the feeling of buzzyness in the lips. When I really concentrate right from the start of my practice day I feel totally open and get a really big clear sound. Ill try the tapering off in range next time I think i was just a bit concerned about endurance and maybe got a bit carried away with the tapering. Thanks
