my band director wants me to play the french horn or mellophone for the marching season. I tryed both, but i`m a little hesatint (sp?) to go full time cause I love my trumpet. Has any one played french horn?

Play the mellophone. It has the excact same fingerings as trumpet and you`ll be able to wail on the highnotes. Pitch is a little different though. A "C" on a Trumpet is an "F" on the Mellophone. Keep that in mind.

i agree with joey the mellophone is really fun and the fingerings are the same. some mellophones will allow you to use a trumpet mouthpiece

Danielle, your just like me. I love my trumpet. I play the mellophone. The mellophone will be a lot funner and easier than the french horn. I would do as your teacher suggests.

Play the French Horn. I play it and I am majoring in french horn performance at my college. I have never played the mellophone but if the French Horn is the instrument to go with. Trust me. Especially in marching bands because it is easy to play loud and strong on the French Horn, and if you have a big horn section, it sounds really neat.
