I just come across my dad's old trumpet a brass coloured selmer one. It has a serial number near the valves of 14549 and then sequential numbers of 12 11 and then 10 on the outer casing where the valves are.tried to find out how old it is based on serial number but not sure. What is the significance of the other numbers on the trumpet. It has the selmer Paris logo on the trumpet as well.think it was originally my grandad who played in a big band in Southport in the 30s 40s. Suppose the question is is it worth anything. Few very minor dents and has 3 mouthpieces with it.

I think the purpose of the numbers on the valve casings is showing what valve numbers they are. Because on my trumpet, the valve casings say 1, 2, and 3, which are the valve numbers respectively. I'm not sure about 10, 11, and 12 though.
