The highest note ever recorded with enough overtones to count as a musical note was the G above double C (which is only a double G, as the trumpet skips about half an octave in note names between C and high C). Higher pitches can be generated, but they don`t have the overtones and resonation to count as a note. They are just squeeks.

(why?)

i dont know why but over the past month ive ben having a lot of problems, every time i try to play above a C, the mouthpiece starts to move down on my lip and i cant stop it. when it moves down, it goes down so far that i think i have 1/100 th of the mouthpiece on my top lip. all th high notes come out great but than i cant play the lower ones so i know i cant keep my mouthpiece like that. has this ever happened ot anyone else, any ideas on how to make the mouthpiece stop shifting? ive heard that when the mouthpiece moves down if might be because of lip fatigue but it happens from the first time i play above C so i dont think thats the problem.

If you want to be able to play extremely high notes easily I know one book that teaches you how to do it. It`s not a quick fix, but takes a few months to learn. You can find the book at http://www.trumpetteacher.net/

If you want to take a look at the book`s forum just go to: http://www.trumpetherald.com/forum/viewforum.php?forum=29&1675

It will also fix any problems you might have like braces, mouthpiece placement and lip position. Visit the sites and see for yourself!

Hi my name is Jenny and I play the trumpet as well I have had braces for about 1 year and a half. Tonight I was searching the internet for some orthodntic wax that I could buy in bulk because the notes just keep getting higher and higher as I get older so while I was searching I found this message board with another person with the same problem as me they lead me to a sight called www.morganbumper.com and it has these things that fit over your braces and work so much better than wax I ordered some and I hear they work great you can use them repeatidly for almost 3 weeks at a time! Just thought this might help you if you have any more questions you can email me at: soccerlvr939@netscape.net

I don`t believe any of you who say they`ve been playing for under five years and can hit a double C. I could hit a high C at the end of my third year of playing. That was after three hours of practice a day. Now that I`m in the same problem, braces, I`ve got my lip back up to the high C, but the A is most comfortable for me. That`s a little above average playing. I can hit a D above the staff with braces, yes I can, it is possible, but if your lips are not used to the viborations, your screwed with cut lips. It really does hurt me though. So what I`m saying is, if you say you can hit 2 Cs above the staff within five years, you would have been practicing for over five hours a day since you started. After Five years of practicing 3 hours a day, I got to the G above high C, then I got braces. So, even with this new Technology saying that it`ll make playing with braces easier, it`s all about your lips and self confidence. Look up to your self ad you can play as high as you want with practice and Braces, just prepare for a long hard journey.

I think you are exactly right because ive never heard of anyone hitting double high c befor five years. i mean maybe but no way in under five years so i totally agree. also the thing with high notes is that i know with me that i have good and bad days where i can hit high d and some days not even hit high c.

hi, i am in the high school band (very small, about 79 people) and i really suck with the high notes. what are the main things i should be focusing on so that i can hit the notes easily? everyone else who plays the trumpet in my band can hit the really high C and i am pretty much the only person who cant. (I have only hit it only about 1 time, but that was when i had a loaner trumpet...) All i ever get is a fuzzy spit-like sound on MY trumpet. Anyway, what are some things i should focus on?

Long tones, that`s it. Start on lowest E (C instrument) or F# (Bb instrument), hold the note out for 15 to 30 seconds, then go up a half step and repeat the process. This should be done at a mezzo piano (mp) dynamic. Now, once you reach your highest note, continue to hold it out longer the the other notes, until you run out of air. Now take a small break, then go at it again. This time go at a mezzo forte (mf). Are you tired yet? I would be surprised. This not only helps your range, but your stamina, endurence, and tone quality. Repeat this proccess until you`re at Fortissimo (ff). For you not be able to control loud because you don`t want to wake you dad. It
ll cost a little money, but it`ll work well and surprisingly quick to fix your volume. Buy a Harmon mute (most stores call them Wa-wa`s or something like that). If you search google for Harmon mute images, it`s the most frequent kind seen. Now cover up the hole (you`re new bell in a way) with something, you hand`ll work. and now play a mid staff C and play soft and get louder and louder up to your loudest. Is it much softer? Should be. Also see if he`ll sleep on one side of the house while you shut all doors to the other side and practice on the other side of the house facing a corner. That also depends on if you`re in a house or an apartment. But, in general, it`ll work. another mute you could use, that I just now thought of, is a practice mute. Your forte will sound like a pianissimo (pp). Either mute will work. I used a harmon since I had it with me already, I needed it for Jazz band. Hope that helps. Any questions? just email me.

why the excitement with high notes?!!! Is that all that matters these days? I can hit a C above the stave.....yay....I`m proud.ooooooo........I can hit a double high C...and as for the kid who can hit f`s and g`s in 3 weeks. What rubbish?! your lips would never be strong enough to do that within 3 weeks of playing!!

This actually started out to help a young man improve his range with braces, but since this dealt with High notes, people had to brag and most likely are lieing. Me, I don`t care about range, it`s more tone quality, but since I play long tones a lot to help my tone, I get a bigger range in return.

Hey trumpet people. Listening to all you talk about hitting the double C is makin me depressed. Ive been playin for 6 years. 6YEARS and i can only play g at the top of the staff consistantly. After about a year and a half of playin i could hit that g often, but then i moved to the school with the worst band director in the county, possibly state. Within a year my sound turned hollow and i never played anything higher than the g. (the good thing was since i was the best player in the band i got solos in every song )I also got braces in 8th grade to make matters worse. When i got to high school i took lessons to try and get back what i lost. Im a sophomore and i still dont have my full sound back. Ive gotten As and a B occasionally, but never higher. I did make the highest band, though. (There`s hope yet!!) im srry to bore you all with my lil life story.

To you people who just got braces, dont quit. It will be hard at first, but you can get through it. Dedicate yourself and think how much better you`ll be once theyre off. ttyl

... how true that is, and I was lucky to learn to play the way I did years ago. By fallowing what I said in a previous message, that helped me, so it may help you all. And to you lil trumpet girl or whatever it was, I`m sorry, bad memory this late, try that to see if it works. If not, I`m not sure what else to do other than find a professional player and get advice from them
