Right now I am playing on a silver Bundy. (I heard there aren`t many silver Bundy`s) However, I would like to get a new trumpet for marching band. I finally convinced my mom to buy me a new trumpet. (I can`t legally get a job otherwise I would buy it myself) I have no idea what to buy. Can anyone tell me what the best is to get?

I think for where you are in your musical career, a Yamaha pro or intermediate model would best suit you. The New Xeno line of horns are great instruments, and very reliable, so you don`t have to worry about getting a bad one. And right now, you may not know for sure what you are looking for in an instrument, so the Xeno is a good option because it allows you to play whatever you want. For an eighth grader, I would stay away from the Bach trumpets, since most of them are bad, even though a few are good. At your playing level, I don`t think you would have enough of an idea as to tell whether or not it was one of the good Bachs, and they are so rare that it is usually a waste of time finding one. Another thing you might want to do is look at used instruments, because they can play as well as new ones, but cost less, and if they have a few dings in them already, you`ll feel a little less bad about accidently dinging it in marching band. I would reccomend you use your old horn for Pep band, if you play in Pep Band, because that is the most hazardous environment for horns.

Thank you for your reply. Yes, I am in Pep Band and have been in a few situations where my trumpet would have been hit. I thought I might use my Bundy as a practice trumpet for marching band, but I`m not sure. What do you think?

Depends on your proneness to accidents. Directors always tell you to use an old horn for marching and pep band. I`m a senior in high school and I`ve used the same horn since 7th grade for both marching and concert seasons and pep band, plus a summer tour. It all depends if you want to risk it or not.
