Hello,
I`m brand new to trumpets. I`m switching over from the baritone. Will there be a big difference?? Is it hard to learn how to play the trumpet by yourself?? What is a good brand to start off with??
thanks, any help will be appreciated,
eric

Once you learn a brass instrument, its usually pretty easy to switch to another brass. The only real adjustments you have to make are the keys and the clefs. The only exception is the trombone, but only because of the slide.

the only problem i can think of is adjusting your mouth. it is possible to transfer from woodwind to brass, but whilst playing woodwind you use your bottom lip whereas brass use their upper lip. it should be problem once you build up your lips to play trumpet.
i think you made a great swap, trumpet is a great instrument to play once you`ve developed range.

If you practice efficiently and with method you should have no problems whatsoever. Routine is the best method for restructuring your embouchure. Get some pro lessons to save you future hassles.
Start with a yamaha 4335 or stomvi forte, both are solid horns for their price and should last.
Good Luck

Hi,
It will be easier for you to play trumpet than a guy who never played at all.
The tonguing is harder than on the Baritone but you will learn fast.
I think having a teacher would help a lot.
What ever you do don`t buy Jean Baptiste trumpets, they are very Bad in quality. I learned from experience!

There is a little difference between the two. The trumpet is my favorite instrument. The trumpet will be easy and fun while you learn how to play. Here is some advice, to play high notes tighten your lips. To play lower notes, losen up a little bit. That is all.
