Hey all,

I just wonder how many of us will continue playing our trumpets when we will be in college and after college into our adult life??

How many of you are planning to become musicians?

As for me, I`m not planning to be a musician but I want to continue playing my trumpet in college and in the future.
It would be very sad if I would have to stop playing in the future because as you all know how much time and effort it takes to play the trumpet good.
Thanks
Dave

That`s very insightful. As of right now, I want to be a psychiatrist. However, I want to play my trumpet in college,Ohio State University, and possibly be in the OSU Marching Band. I`ll probably just play my trumpet for fun after that. My trumpet is a big part of my life and I could never let it go.

Yes, I`m majoring in music. Mostly vocal but trumpet will be my backup. Buy my cd one day.

Hey if you`ll come out with your own CD one and it`s good then I`ll buy it.

Also would you then give out free lessons? LOL

Dave

I just made the marching band at my college (University of Illinois) so I`m definately playing for another 4 years. After that, maybe a neighborhood symphony or something. On the side of course; I`m not majoring in music. After playing for so many years, I don`t know how I could live w/o the trumpet.

Hey Jessie

Is it hard to keep up with college work and playing on the band?

How much time do you spend on the band?

Thanks

I`m not in college yet; I`m still a senior in high school. But from the schedule I got so far, it`s an hour and a half practice everyday with an extra rehearsal on Tuesdays, plus an actual college marching band course. Football game every Saturday in Sept and Oct, along w/ a special marching band festival thingy. A lot of time, but sounds like lots of fun.

Don`t let people in this forum stop you!

First off all, everyone may not be telling the truth. I mean, I could say, "I`ve played trumpet since I was four, and I can now hit a triple A", and you could believe me (but I don`t; I only play clarinet and piano, and I started them at ages 10 and 9, respectively). So don`t believe them...

Also, I`ve read some trumpet forum stuff, and I`ve noticed that range seems to be the most important aspect, but it`s not. There are so many other factors... and it doesn`t matter if you can hit that really high note.

I mean, it`s really only important if you`re a lead player in some jazz or latin band. But what about classical trumpet?

Trust me, my ex-boyfriend plays trumpet, and he plays lead in a jazz band. He can hit some pretty high notes (and it can be a little annoying sometimes). But to him, it`s also important to have a good tone, good technique, know standards (for jazz), and have a lot of ideas for improvisation!

So don`t give up just because you hear some obscure comments in the forum! Keep going! Pursue music!
