You are pushing way too hard into the chops.

Read Eric`s note b4... it`s good advice. Keep the arm muscles out of it, you will rarely get above high C, and your endurance will suck. Give up on that method...we all used it once, but blowing freely the way "up". Best of Luck...btw I`m an aussie as well.

Hi,
I`m not in Oz at present, I`m in Shanghai in China, and loving it.

The "Who" sound is a lttle technique to keep you from constricting the opening. Usually, the embouchure forms with an "if to ee" shape, and begin buzzing. That`s the normal starting point for beginners. The "who" allows you to open the lips with a slight pucker, and blow straight down the mouthpiece. I still find if I deflect to the bottom, as if trying to blow to my feet, but with the "who" shape in the embouchure going high is a lot easier.

BTW, I`m not a teacher, just an "older" player, who loves the trumpet.

sounds kool

but is the who sound like when you pronounce the word who? coz if so, don ur lips stick out?
i duno

i think i may b gettin braces soon..or mayb not soon (they r expensiv u no lol)
but i think im kinda excited or am i jus crazy? Everyone says that they ruin ur playin but i think that once i get them, it mit stop my mouthpiece pressure or arm pressure coz if i do use it, it`ll not only bleed probli every tim i play, but itll hurt even more so il prolly end up laying off of it but on the other hand i think itll destroy my already not so up there range lol and wel my endurance already sux

what dyou think?

I have never had braces, so cannot speak with any knowledge.

I would have thought that if you wore braces you can still play, and it would promote the no pressure technique.

Any change to teeth, lips (scars etc) mouth can cause changes to embouchures, but if the technique is correct, it`s just a case of re-building some muscles again (Like gym work - some tone exercise is required).

In any case don`t give up, and even if you have to lay off, keep listening and exercising the brain to train the ear and mind. If you love to play, never give it up.
