i was just wonderin..hav any of guys not felt recognised for your playing..?

i think my playings alright and hav a pretty good tone/sound and range (lowf#-high c) considering my age time iv been playin (1 year, 10 months)compared to others in my band...
the thing is my head guy-he doesnt know. he just htinks im a lil beginner girl thats just there.I`ve seen the stuff the older girls play and i dont think..i mean like its really cool but i dont think its that hard but they do.
our schools pretty major n we get lots of stuff so how can i just get him to realise that im better than what he thinks i am without making too much of an impression or showing off..?
thanks heaps

Enjoy your playing, and be consistent with tone, blow freely and accurate.

Recognition will come. Oz always has a Tall Poppie Syndrome - so wait until you have settled in, then have a jam together. That will sort them out!

I would practice really hard, and perhaps take the music to your music teacher. Pick a tune that the older players like to muck around on, and get a solo done around it (with the help of your music teacher). Don`t skite, your horn will do the talking. It does take time, and everyone learns at different rates.

iv been thinking more and..when my teacher first listend to me get the f -top line on staff she was al proud n said oh my god i didnt expec u to get that, wow well done your range is getting better isnt it..? and she was proud of me (this was like after 6 or 7 months )
now about 2 months ago in lesson i got the high c and she was happy and amazed but she didnt seem so impressed..infact i almost thought there was a biter look wen i got it..now today in my lesson she was all like oh see if you can go higher- rather nastily because i knew that she knew i couldnt, so expecting me to make a fool out of myself , i tried. i got up to the e-it was pinchy, but the note came out

she didnt seem too happy. i know that her highest note as a teacher is the high f.and i had gotten 2 more notes i wouldve past that. iv talked to some friends and we kinda rekon shes jealous. i duno...]

what dyou guys rekon

I think your music teacher likes you, and it sounds like there is recognition in a way, since she asked you to play up to the high notes.

Your tone and accuracy may be off, that is normal at the beginning. I don`t think she is jealous. If she`s been playing, and has a degree from The Con, she would be able to play. It may not be her main instrument, as a lot of teachers play various instuments.

I would settle back and enjoy the band you`re in, don`t get too hard on the Old Teach, she has a lot more students to look after.

Don`t measure a good player by range only, it is tone, style, musicianship and trumpet skills that make a difference. At 14, you have a long time ahead to go for range, and develop the skills.

my music teacher picks everthing for me..im just kinda there..having the lesson.
its also begining to get very embarassing since my lessons go for half an hour and by the end of 15 mins i sound like a terrible kazooish..sounds an elephant with a cold rather than a trumpet and all the notes after that are forced.
she jjust gets really impatient when this happens. i duno y it does..i used to play for hours on end without tiring..i don hav braces or anything
maybe its just the music getting harder............?

It`s not your playing that they don`t like, it`s your attitude. Be happy, and humble, no matter what you`re playing, be as pleasant a person as you can and it will make a huge difference. If that`s the only reason you play, to get `recognised`, people will avoid you for the very reason that you want a lot of attention.

i say just be yourself. if you just suddenly feel like playing something that others may consider showing off, by all means play it. you should not be in the band for anybody else but you. if they feel you`re showing off, thats their problem, so just play without regard for others` opinions(except maybe your music teacher). i`ve been accused of showing off since i first stared in 6th grade. now that i am a rising sophmore in high school, i don`t get picked on anymore. never let it get to you. eventually you`ll get respect, and even if you don`t, its still cool. what i did was, in my 7th grade year, i was being picked on relentlessly by the second and third chair girls, so i challenged them both after school to see who was better. they didn`t show up. so the next day we played "on broadway" and i took the ending up an octave, which required me to hit a high D. needless to say, they were stunned. it was funny though. so the moral of my story is play for you, not others.
