I bought my daughter a BandNow trumpet last year for beginning band. The band instructor now tells me she will need another trumpet to continue in band. Should I have to already buy another trumpet?

Hi Karen,
I do not know Bandnow trumpets, but a lot of so called student trumpets are not good. They are OK for the very beginners but then they become a real hinerance to the student progressing. Usually it`s frustration that the trumpet valves are too slow, or the horn is out of tune.
The best thing is to try to get a better horn that will take her through to the intermediate level. Some second-hand horns are good value, and will not break the bank. Also the investment is based on the interest of the student. My first horn lasted me 6 months - it cost me $35 and the Music store gave me the money back as a trade in 6 months later.

Hi,
When I first started I bought a Jean Baptiste student trumpet for $150.
for me this was a waste of money. The trumpet didn`t even last 6 month when the valves started to get stuck all the time and the horn was out of tune.
I could`t take it anymore so I bought a Getzen Capri model and now I`m very happy with it.
I`m playing a little over a year now and I had no problems with the valves and the horn is in tune with other instrument in my band.
I think that when buying horns you have to look at big name brand because they have good quality and the least you must buy is an intermediate level trumpet.
Good Luck
Dave

When i first started playing the trumpet i bought a "no name" brand trumpet and was so frustrated that it was history within a year. Valves stuck, and the first valve was stripped at on the shaft of the cylinder and i would be playing and it would come off and i would have to unscrew the valve and re-screw the cylinder. But now I have a Silver Bach trumpet, and i was getting it cleaned i got out my old trumpet and found that the sound quality of the "no name brand was clearer and just better. Maybe it is not the horn its the musician, but i am considering using the old one for marching season. All this is just to say that it really is hard to judge the quality by the brand.

bandnow is a true let down. yes she might need a new trumpet because bandnow is specifically for beginners and not intermediates. i would suggest a getzen trumpet or a bach. (i personally prefer getzen but to each their own)

Karen,
I tried unsuccessfully to email you some information separately, so hope, if you haven`t already purchased another trumpet for your daughter, this might be helpful.
Getzen and Bach make fine instruments, but you can get a Blessing ML-1S professional model sivler trumpet that will closely compare with any of them for less than half the price. I suggest that you look at ww.wwbw.com or www.giardinelli.com and what they have offer. Feel free to email me with any questions.
