Depends on the playing, level of player and type of playing.

Arguably the best off the shelf is the Bach Strad ML37. Most pros play them, and they are great.

A lot of good horns out there, and plenty to choose from.

Try a Getzen, they are pretty much up to par with bach, and many pros play them too, like Rick Braun, and the have some kind of alloy valves that prevents sticking, but they are a really great trumpet.

i agree with peter on this one. bach strads are very good. i played a getzen before, and while it was okay, it didn`t compare with the strad 37. i`m thinking of trading in my king silver flair 2055T in a pawn shop for a bach strad 37. they have 2 really good ones there.

if anyone has any other trumpet suggestions, please tell me.

Just beware that the lacquer on Bach Stad`s are notorious for coming off. I have one and it looks 100 years old; but sounds and plays great. I won`t re-lacquer, although it is mostly back to brass in most areas. I also have an older Bach Mercedes, that plays great as well. Some older Mercedes are a great alternative, but play it first. They can vary. Mine plays as easy as the Strad, but a slightly mellower tone quality. I use the Merc for Jazz...and the lacquer is heaps better quality.

The Bach Strad is gorgeous to play.

i like my getzen 900s a lot.i`m not trying to start something here but i disagree with the thing about pros playing bachs. a lot of them play older horns that were hand made if you want a bach however i would reccomend looking for a bach model 198. it was a limtited edition and only like a thousand were made it`s a very showy instrument as well as a great instrument to play. it might be expensive to buy one from a shop unless it`s an individual selling the horn. i would like to finish thiss off by saying that i like the getzen 900s as much as the 198 bach and it would probably be cheaper and it`s known to help high notes speak clearer and it should add a few notes to your range and it will help tone a lot if you aren`t already playing a top of the line pro trumpet

I play a Getzen Bass Trumpet as well (&love it). I like Getzen, but still prefer Bach for Bb Trumpets...as I said earlier there`s a lot of good horns out there. I played an Old`s Recording horn (borrowed) and it was like butter. I couldn`t break the wrist of the owner to sell it, so I got the Bach Merc instead. It is up to the individual, and that`s what makes us all different (not necessarily better). If I was starting new again, I would definitely look at Yamaha..they`ve jumped a long way.

Still you`d have a hard time prying the Stad off me. I would add another, not replace this horn.
