....to hard..way way too hard and the thing is.the music`s not even that high! didn`t hav this problem earlier..i`ve beeen playing nearly two years (this is my second year) and my endurance sux. it`s really annoying because i`ve developed the continuous habbit of using the mouthpiece to get the higher notes..even if they aren`t even high- third space c and last line f.
so far i`ve done a bit of the pencil strengthening and lip buzzing. i can lip buzz to a last space e, and i THINK the exercises are helping but not as much as i`d like them to
i might as well list all my problems lol..
i want to improve my tone and sound quality and register, but not so much register as im happy with it at the mom. but bsides practising every day, what will make me sound better?
articulation..accents i cant do them gracefully
but the main thing......ENDURANCE!!! i just really want to be able to play for a long time without tiring.
thanks for your replies guys
crumpet
ps im considering buying a trumpet- bach or yamaha in mind at the mom but only because of suggestions- i havent really tried them. and would changing a moiuthpiece help me use not as much pressure?

Hi Crumpeta,
You say you`ve been playing for 2 years, and now your range sucks! What`s changed? Have you changed mouthpieces, new trumpet or practice regime?
Give up pushing the mouthpiece into your chops to get a higher range. I would start at G...yes the second open note. That is the natural starting spot for most of us. begin with chromatic down to C, then chromatic run to next C. You are only playing the 3 open notes. Don`t try to get higher, just long notes, and tongue or just lip slur up and down.
Try that only for a couple of days, with no pressure...then tell us how your tone quality is. Look forward to hearing how you go.
You must have the bottom/middle register nailed before going higher.

One thing I haven`t mentioned, you should not have to change your embouchure from bottom C to high C (2 octaves). So do not go taking the mouthpiece away from your lips to change embouchure. Just concentrat on a clean, solid tone and sound for each note.

Are your teeth normal? Do you have an overbite/underbite, or front teeth crocked?
How old are you?
It`s normal for the lips to be tingly, and probably numb after 40 mins continuous practice. Probably a red mark, and white centre. Look in the mirror after the practice, and are the marks lined up normal in the centre of you lips when you smile, or off to one side - top or bottom lip?

At 15 your teeth should be pretty well settled. So that`s good. A little over bite should not be a major problem either, and it sounds like your lips are pretty normal.
Don`t go off changing mouth-pieces yet, but are you using a 7C or 3C??
It sound like you may be trying to go too high too soon. I would stay in the middle register, and practice every day for at least 30 mins if you can. Concentrate on your breathing, and clear good tone.

That`s great.
Up to a G is good for such a short time. Keep the muscles working, and the lip buzzing using just a mouthpiece is good; softly but accurately. When you put the horn with it you should try to get a nice even tone. Keep the air flow even and balanced.
The trick is to carry the same tone all the way up past High C. Really work at keeping just enough mouthpiece pressure to keep the sound well formed.
The air velocity pressure will increase as you go above this, and then you`re off.
You`re not lazy, even the best players will use the pressure on the chops to cut a screamer, but you quickly die from lack of endurance..Sounds really good at the time though. It just is not sustainable for any length of time, and not doing you any good long term without the correct technique.
Good luck
