Dont you think it`s a bit sexist...? I don no any famous female trumpeters. Does this mean that we aren`t capable of playing as well as men? I really hope not...
Please respond

Your game...There are going to be a lot of knives sharpened and thrown your way....
There are a lot of excellent female Pro trumpeters out there ! The solo/exhibitionist high endurance stuff is probably more male,(not sexist - just the body make God gave us). But I tell you I have heard some great Gals (and great chops), a lot more now than a decade or 2 ago. One that comes to my mind was Sue Bluke, she played for Manteca (Aussie player)and was a high player.
It is risky for pregnant mums, so I think it is just a fact of life, but don`t kid anyone, the Gals can play and play hard.

From another forum:
WEll there`s a few actually. The below post mentioning Ingrid Swensen from Europe. Also check out Ann King(Guns & Roses video, Maiden Voyage, etc.) Stacy Rolls, Carol Reinhart(classical) and others. They`re out there and they`re great. Maiden Voyage also was/is an all girl big band started by Ann Patterson here on the west coast. Of course Ann plays reeds, etc.
Actually, there have been all girl big bands dating all the way back to the beginnings of the big band era and some great gal trumpet players too. Sorry, mybadd that I can`t remember all their names. doh! Also check out some female drumcorps too on www.corpsreps.com. There were plenty of all girl corps in their day who also defeated guys before DCI was ever around.

there are just more male trumpeters than female, i never really thought about it but i guess girls generally don`t take it to the professional level much.

because of our society... females find it a lot rougher to become famous anyways... also because trumpet players prodominantly became famous in the 1900`s (ealrier) females were seen as a weaker sex and they did not try and become famous. now a days look around, goto symphonies... if it is classical... there will probably be female trumpet players. just keep trying, don`t let the past blind your focus. I will be famous because I am not affraid of media and other threats for woman... you can be whoever/whatever you want to be, "dream big but dream broad!" - Elizabeth Nobel

I know of a couple good female professional players. One year in my middle school band there was a girl who played the trumpet and was one of the best ones in the band.
