I have a Yamaha student trumpet that hasn`t been played for 5 years It is 13years old I played it for 8 of those years and had to stop at the discression of my orthodontist after having braces
Will it still have good tone after all this time?
About how long will it stay good for assuming it could stay good until now?
Can anybody out there answer these questions?
It`s just that my cousin thinks he wants to play and if he doesn`t want it there are 12 more kids in my family younger than him and any one of them might like it.

The trumpet should be OK, as long as you gave it a good oil of the valves, and greased the slides before storing all those years ago. If it has been kept in the cupboard in it`s case it should only need a good clean, and re-oil.

Check the valves are free, and take them out first, one at a time. As you take each out, remove the slides, and grease each. Clean the valves casings and Oil the valves and replace.
Play it, then check the tuning slide.

A good wash with soapy water should then be done, and again a full clean. Get going and play it...

thanks Peter.
I`m actually going to a new dentist so he might give me the go ahead to play.
Thanks again if anything my mind is at ease that if the trumpet ends up going to one of my cousins it will be sturdy.
