Hey all, I`ve been playin the trumpet for a few years and am currently a soloist in my high school jazz band.
I was using a 3c bach mouthpiece for a while and starting having pains in my bottom (not the usual top...yeah I`m a freak) lip. I switched back to my old 7c and was fine. Then I went on vacation and had to play into the ground for two weeks so it wouldn`t be too loud and bug people (shoulda just left it home...I`m too dedicated). Now I`m having the same pains in my inner bottom lip while playing (more often on higher notes), it almost feels like pinching. My top lip seems to be fine. It really sucks to be in pain when I`m playing and I`d like to not be, any suggestions?
Thanks.

If you play alot then you will have soreness and somtimes bleeding, but a pinching is very strange. Is there a cut on the inside? You may be pushing too hard and cutting off the circulation and the blood returning might make a sensation. Maybe? Try taking some Vitamin E, it helps with cuts Protein like in peanuts, chicken and supplements help build muscle and this could help in a way if you are straining your muscles. Protein helps the building of muscles. Hope this helps! Good Luck

Yes if you play alot the inside of your top lip will crack open and bleed... bottom lip pains. nope
Not the mouthpiece,
Your pressing the horn against your lips too hit high notes, that`s not dedication its bad technique. If you want to fix the problem buzz before you play, Buzz without the mouthpiece listen to your airstream for consistency and no breaks, then buzz with the mouthpiece.
make sure all the air goes in the horn not on the sides of your mouth, which means look in the mirror and focus on your embochure, that and warm air should help your tone in the upper register and yes the more air the higher the notes. don`t pinch and pray please.
goodluck.
