I have been using a bach 3c mouthpiece and i need to increase my range and endurance and a 3c will definately not cut it. I have used a bobby shew (marsinkiwitz)? had to give it back though. Just wondering what a good piece would be to change back and forth once in a while.
Please help, i am in college and am just wondering.

A 3C mouthpiece corresponds very well with a Schilke 14A4a for lead playing. This would be similar to a Bach 3E or 3F. I play on a very large mouthpiece for symphonic playing, but the wider rims on shallower mouthpieces cause me to bottom out when playing lead on a wide, shallow mouthpiece. For this reason, I have to play a very small rim, and shallow cup for lead work. Switching between mouthpieces is a bit more of a pain for me than for people who can play the same rim with different cup depths. If it is the same for you, you will have to try a smaller rim or a cup that isn`t as shallow as the Schilke A or the Bach F.

The Schilke 14A4a is a relatively common size. You can probably get one at a music store, or online for even cheaper. They are around $35 from places like wwbw.com and mouthpieceexpress.com. Good luck.

I play on a like 3c mouthpiece and i just baught the bobby shew lead by yamaha. I really like this mpc because of the sound and ease with loud dynamics. Becarefull with the schilkes, they use a totally different rim then a bach and in my expierience i hated it. The bobby shew had a nice flat rim just like the standards and it feels awesome on the chops. I recommend Yamaha`s Bobby Shew Lead.

stick with the 3c, the 3e and f will give you better range but terrible tone, and you ARE going to be heard above the rest of the band so you want to sound good.

Getting a different MPC will not increase your endurance. The shallowness will affect the tone and diameter affects the embouchure in a number of ways. If you have poor endurance your going to have to work on it and its going to be a long process. I learned how to play for a long time with high volumes and in the upper register on a bach 1c. I then changed mouthpieces to help me add color to the tone and help relieve the physical aspect in that register. If you can only play a few high c`s at loud dynamics for a short time getting a shallower mpc wont do much. Your going to have to work on it, and the only way to do it is to push through when it hurts. Its like pushups, add those final two and it makes a difference.
