all i know is that a 3c mouthpiece is better than 7c. Everyone starts with a 7c, but after some years you need a 3c, or something else. So take the 3c! Have it also, for 2 months. It had a nicer feeling with a 3c because your lips has more space and (i think) you can hit better the high notes.

My conductor told me that a Bach is better than a Yamaha. But he also told me that you have to play every day on the Bach otherwise it won`t go very good. You don`t have that with a Yamaha. Do you have the choice between other marks? Like Stomvi (spanish)?

Band directors alway say Bach. Why? Because Bach used to be the best way to go. They used to build outstaning instruments. 50 years ago. Now they are owned by a massive conglomerate corporation who are trying to make a profit, not instruments. If you are going to get a trumpet, get the Yamaha. Yamaha instruments are of the highest quality, and they play very well. They are very consistant, and they play much better than the Bachs do.

As for the mouthpiece, the 7C is the standard size because it is kind of in the middle of the range. It is a terrible mouthpiece, and hardly any decent trumpet players play on it. Try out some new mouthpieces, such as a 5C and a 3C and maybe some of the Yamaha/Schilke models in the 12-16 range. Good luck. Also, make sure you buy whatever you like best, regardless of what anyone tells you. If you find a Bach that you absolutely love, go for it. But my guess is that you won`t.

The only difference between a 3C and a 7C is that a 3C is bigger, the mouthpiece that you should play on is the one that is comfortable to you. Bigger or smaller, it doesn`t matter. What does matter is finding a mouthpiece that it is easy to play on that you get a good sound.
