Yo sup I have been playing my trumpet for
about 6 years and I have always been playing
with a 7 C mouthpiece. now that I am in 10th grade
I play all these really high notes (well not that high but C is high ta me)
and I can play them but its hard as hell.
Is this cuz of my mouthpiece? What kinda
mouthpiece should I get for high notes?

Or better yet is it a good idea to play high notes
on 7c? or what kind of mouthpiece?

Well i`m not sure,it seems we are in the same situation casue i`ve been playing for about 6 and a half years with a 7c mouthpiece and i`m in tenth grade as well. I`m in the jazz band and concert band at my school and i`m finding i have to play alot of high notes. So yeah if any one can help us it would be great.

One important thing is the manufacturer of the mouthpiece. The Bach 7C is an excellent mouthpiece, whereas those from Benge, Blessing, Conn, ect..., are very poor in overall design.

MORE important though is you. Chances are, it`s not the mouthpiece that`s hindering you, but rather, yourself. I can pick up a student horn with a 7C and play high, the difference is in the quality of sound and such. That doesn`t mean a bigger mouhtpiece (i.e. 1 1/2C) will give you a better sound, it just enables you to use more of your face.

Chances are, you need to get with a private teacher to work through your problems. The first thing to blame is yourself, not your hardware. It`s non-changing and is the /only/ part of your stuff you can depend on 100%.

If you`re ridiculously insisten upon changing mouthpieces, do so to something like a Bach 3C. No mouthpiece will "give" you high chops. You have to know how to play high before you can do it...period. They enable you to project better, but they will /not/ enable you to play high.

Good luck,

Cheers!
Aaron

You`re adding pressure because you`re not progressing quick enough for your liking You`re trying to hard to get better and play higher, when what you need to do is just play. You`ll progess much faster if you do so.

Cheers!

Stick with the 7C unless you have teeth problems. I agree with Aaron the Bach 7C is a really good standard.

Concentrate on your tone and breathing. The range will come with free blowing

oh thanks I know how to play high notes good and all I just was wondering
if I got a mouthpiece if it would be easier on my sexy lips. Well I guess Not!
I`ll just get a 3C mouthpiece, my 7c is pretty banged up anyway
