I`ve been getting some oxidation near me leadpipe and was wondering.... you see i`ve got this 3m automotive metal polish (pretty indrustrial stuff). But it says it works for brass, so could i use that or would i have to worry about destroying the lacquer? Some people have told me to use furniture polish but i dont want to just seal in the corrosion.

If your horn is lacquered, and you like it that way....DO NOT use the polish on it.

All polishes tend to cut a little, so you in fact remove the lacquer.

I would only use a correct cleani9ng cloth. I use a thing called "MicroFibre". It is 80% Polyester and 20% Polyamide. It is used on eye glasses, etc.

I used to use the old Yellow Boot/shoe cloth, and it did a great job. the trick is to give it a wipe when you put it back in the case. It helps to stop the corrosion from perspiration/acids.

That will help reduce the corrosion. Once you start with Polishes it`s near the end.

I have a Bach Strad which unfortunately still didn`t go too long before the lacquer came off. I`ve just let it be, and still wipe it over with the cleaning cloth. The quality of the lacquer used has a lot to do with it. Also some people are naturally more acidic than others.

My advice..use the cloth, and enjoy the vintage look.
