what is the highest note you can squeeze out on
a standard 7c. For me it is a high c sharp or
to make it sound higher a high d flat. The one a half
step above high c

i can plas as high on a 7c as i can on a 1x 1c 3c 2b any size. the reason why people can`t play as high on a 7c as they can on a different size is because of pressure. if yo uget white knuckles then you`ve been playing to long and to answer your question i can always play at least a double c but if i`m having a good day i`ve been known to get the g above it

Timofei Dokshizer played on a 7E nearly his entire professional life. He had(s) and amazing sound, range and ability.

Mouthpiece size really doesn`t matter at all. A larger mouthpiece (smaller number for the Bach numbering system..ie 3 or 1 1/2) fascilitates a larger, fuller sound, but does not help with range. If anything, it does hurts one`s range at first because you`re using part of your face that hasn`t been used before. A 3C is larger then a 7C, therefore it takes more control.

DO NOT look at your equipment for an excuse as to why you can`t play high. It isn`t the mouthpiece or horn, it`s you. Playing well and high is difficult and takes a lot of time.

Get a good private teacher, study diligently, and you`ll do great.

Cheers!

Aaron`s right, the best equipment won`t help a musician if the musician doesn`t work hard.

I think the highest note you can "squeeze" out isn`t very useful. It`s more instructive to know what your highest, _quality_ note is after, say, an hour of playing. Then you have an accurate idea of what you can put out under realistic conditions.

Sometimes I use my 7c and I can get double d or e. On my 3c I can hit e with ease however I use a donis wick 5E which enables me to hit double a sometimes b on a good day

i would say that the mouthpiece dont make the biggest difference but it does help. I couldnt hit a c for the life of me so i got a shilke and i could hit them easy...but im sure that if i wouldve playd with my 5c longer i wouldve gotten used to it

Hey I found out my mouthpiece size, its a 6CB, It was a friends but now i have it, hehe. My brass instructor wants to try me on a shilke, but idk how well that will work. She yells at me everytime she sees my mouthpiece cuz of all the chips in it. I guess its really old. Does ne one know if the chips can actually damage my lips? Ive been playing on it for abour 2 1/2 yrs and ive been fine, but idk if its actually hurting me. I`ll come back and check the board in a few days. If ne one knows, It would b great to let me know, for now, PEACE!!!

if you have a damaged mouthpiece it will definitely hurt your sound but it will not hurt your lips. you should try and replace your mouthpeice as soon as possible. as for all of the people on this who say that a better mouthpiece helps them play higher, that is a lie. smaller mouthpieces only shrink the amount of air that goes into the horn at one time which makes high notes sound better. they also provide endurance when you play high for a long time. i would never reccommend switching to a smaller mouthpiece for high register, because you can still get nice high register on a large mouthpiece, it just takes work
