I personally use valve oil on my 1st and 3rd slide triggers, and grease for the tuning slide. My valve oil is a thin synthetic though, and lasts a long time, which is convenient. It also gives the slides very little resistance, which you may or may not like.
My teacher gave me some synthetic grease, but I prefer less resistance in sliding. It`s really up to you.

I use grease. It`s the greatest trombone thing since sliced bread.

I reccomend a lighter grease, or a layer of slide grease and a few drops of valve oil over that.

Pond`s cream...yeah the one your mum uses on her face.
I use it on Trombone slides, and it works a treat on trumpet slides.
