Playing higher when colder?

My range on a 7C or 3C usually goes up to about a C above the staff or maybe an E on a good day, but when the weather gets to be below 50 degrees, I find I can hit a double G with little problem. Most of the other trumpeters in my marching and jazz band have their ranges reduced when playing in the cold. Anyone know why this is? Does anyone else share my desire for a mouthpiece coolant system?

I know what you`re talking about; it happens to me all the time.

Even a minor room temp. drop has an effect on my range and overall performance.

Anyone with tricks or advise on how to overcome the cold enviroments?

Thanks
Dave

Overcome the cold environment? It helps me play much cleaner and higher. I have no tricks to overcome coldness. I generally blow on my mouthpiece to keep it cool during rests.

its because where your cold, your lips are tighter....which means you don`t have to work so much on holding your lips in the same position. there stiff so they don`t move so mush. Tighter sides give a slight increase in register but come to any difficult slurs in a piece and your screwed!!!
