Re: quote from Derek: "....I can play hard passages.."
There are no "hard passages"...just unfamiliar ones.
Explanation: When you have command of your instrument, all music becomes easy via practice/familiarity.

For all who are so hung up on playing high notes. If you think that`s all that`s important about playing trumpet, Why not just get a Piccolo trumpet and take off for "high note heaven".

because piccolo trumpets only boost your range by like one note, it just makes it a little easier.

The correct way a piccolo trumpet works is it takes your current range and bumps it up an octave. The instrument is half the tubing so it resonates an octave higher. Fun stuff if you can play it right. The horn is tough as hell....

It`s natural - a kind of trumpet olympics ...
High notes - I had the worst embouchure ever at the age of 14, yet I could consistently play super Cs (because I had worked on it). Unfortunately, the tone was dreadful throughout the range - but I was totally blind to that. My focus was on merely getting the highest note possible.
I had a severe embouchure change - I`m now making an excellent sound - but I`ve yet to reach the dizzy heights with it. And so what? The tone you make is much more important than how high you can jump.
