I am looking for a trumpet with a deepr heavier sound than what I have now. Perhaps with a larger bell. Any suggetions on a specific model?

A bigger bell isn`t going to help. The bell affects the overtones of the instrument but it thas nothing to do with the tone color. I suggest buying a mouthpiece with a larger cup if you would like to have a darker heavier sound, perhaps a bach 1X, or if you have excess cash buy a Monette. As for getting a different trumpet, the larger the bore the darker the instrument, usually.

Jay is bang on. Compare a flugelhorn with a trumpet, they look virtually the same. The biggest difference is the size of bell coming from the first lead pipe all the way out. I might recommend familiarizing yourself with schilke`s line and then picking something out based on that. If you are bent on a new trumpet as well, get something with a large bore. My Getzen 900s has the .464 bore. I think Doc severinsen played with a .460, and Maynard Ferguson plays .468 (or was it .474? I don`t remember now). I think the combination of a big bore trumpet with a schilke mouthpiece, and lots of long tones will get you where you want to be.

note the next buttons at the bottom of the page, there`s 3 pages of trumpet mouthpeices.
