I play the flute and have been thinking of also learning to play the trumpet. Will playing the trumpet in any way interfere with my flute playing?

Hey, My mum is a flute teacher and extrememlly good player. I have asked her about your probelm and she says that starting the trumpet would affect your flute playing, in that the tone on the flute would become poor. hope that helps a bit

I know I have said this a few times before on this forum...
You find a few really good trumpeters who can play sax and flute. I have never seen a really good sax or flute player doubling on trumpet. So I agree with Mark, it probably does something to your embouchure and controls. Get some good advice from your flute teacher. If your only OK with flute, and want to learn trumpet, then go and do it. Aim to be a really good trumpeter who can double on flute...

Well, I was going to give an opinion, and say maybe it`s just me - but I see the experts have already spoken. I played trumpet and flute, and clarinet and oboe all in the same time period. I blame the trumpet for especially messing up my ability to get a sound, blowing across the hole of the flute. Seemed like my lips didn`t know what shape to make anymore, or they just wouldn`t obey my "commands". Strat man Dwight
