They are REALLY, REALLY (icould repeat REALLY 20 more times) good, but they will run you abou $200. MOst are more expensive though. Monette doesn`t just turn these out, they make each one buy hand. And if you want to know about one of their trumpets, you have to fill out a survey, because they consider their trumpets like children, they wont sell them to anybody (I once emailed them for a price quote on their Shakti trumpet, it vame back around $11,000, lol)but their mouthpieces are REALLY (lol) good.

Monette mouthpieces are designed for each trumpet type and key, there are only about 2 mouthpieces that can be used on non-Monette trumpets. Have a look on their web site www.monette.net

Flumpet mouthpieces on a standard trumpet have a very unique sound. I wouldnt quite say that they sound like a flugelhorn. If so, why not just play a flugelhorn. However they have a much darker, richer sound than a standard trumpet mouthpiece. I guess it could be compared to like a Chet Baker or Tom Harrel-type sound.

I play trumpet with a monette mouthpiece, B5L (shallow) which works for me and cornet with a B5L FL mouthpiece, which is a VERY deep flumpet cup. It takes some getting used to, but the deeper one is actually nicer to play. It gives the instrument a very mellow tone. The higher register is still there, you just have to get used to it.
