Hi.

I`ve been playing trumpet for 6 years, and last Monday (about a week ago) I discovered the Carnival of Venice, and quickly became addicted to it. Every day of that week, I practiced it for 2 hours per day, not resting much- mostly just playing straigh for an hour twice in the day.
Yesterday I noticed a bump forming on my lip, and it was very tender. Now, it`s more prominent and it hurts a lot! It`s hard for me to play, and I don`t want to ruin anything (even though it seems like I already have).
I believe it is a blister/zit because today I popped it a tiny bit and a little bit of yellow/white/clear ooze started coming out of it.
I don`t know what to do.

Should I keep playing and just bear the pain?

Is it bad to play when you have a blister?

How seriously have I damaged my embochure?

Thanks!

Try taking a full day to just rest. While doing so, begin a strict regiment of drinking 8 glasses of water a day. I`m not joking when I tell you that consuming water will make you a better player. You`ll feel better, your lips will be more hydrated, as well as your mouth... it ups your immune and healing systems... that blister will go away soon. As far as its cause, it sounds to me like you`re using way too much pressure. C of V is a great piece, but it`s also a trap if you don`t have full control of your emboucher to stay away from pressure. The intensity of the piece can take away from your playing ease. Make sure you rest equally as much as you play... take in plenty of water... stay conscious of your pressure usage... and rest a full day if that blister is bothering you. You`ll do yourself more good by resting

Yeah,

You keep telling people thats how you got the sore on your lip, eventually someone will believe you

If you have been playing for 6 years, and that`s the first time you ever practiced an hour or two every day, then you probably aren`t that good of a player anways.

Stick to how you really got the sore on your lip. Im sure you do that better.
